With so many options competing for a limited amount of viewing time, many people now research a show carefully before starting it, reading reviews, checking episode counts, or asking friends whether a series is worth the investment before ever pressing play on the very first episode.

This upfront research reflects a real shift in how viewers treat their own attention. Where earlier audiences might simply try a show and abandon it if uninterested, streaming's sheer volume of choice has made many viewers more cautious, unwilling to risk hours on something that ultimately disappoints.

The habit does have a cost, though, since some shows reward patience that a quick review cannot capture, growing stronger only several episodes in. Relying too heavily on early opinion risks missing exactly the kind of slow burn a review alone could never fully predict.
