The Completionist Viewer and the Need to Finish

Some viewers cannot leave a show unfinished, even once it has clearly stopped delivering the quality that hooked them in the first place. The completionist viewer treats a started series almost as an obligation, pressing on through a weak season purely because stopping now would feel like an unfinished task left hanging.
This instinct often has less to do with the show itself than with a personal sense of order. Abandoning something midway can feel genuinely unsettling for certain viewers, regardless of quality, while finishing provides a sense of closure that matters more to them than the actual content did by that point.
Streaming has made this habit easier to indulge, since an entire back catalogue remains permanently available rather than disappearing after a broadcast window closes. What was once a mild personality trait has, for many viewers, quietly become a genuine and fairly demanding viewing style of its own.
